FALALALALA, LALALALA!

MERRY CHRISTMAS! had expected today to be nothing but a stay-at-home-and-mope day but surprise surprise we went to watch the curse of the golden flower, which was weird for a family of adults who consider 9.50 a too hefty price to pay for a holiday movie ticket.

what was even more unexpected was that i wasn't completely bowled over by the movie, probably because of the lack of serious action scenes and the overplay of emotions. like i still cannot fathom how an illicit affair led to a mega army rebellion, dead princes, and deranged rulers. talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

then again the actors were stellar (and no, i'm not being biased towards jaythegreat, although i must say that he is as great as always, and his acting has improved from initial d) and the sets and costumes were breathtaking! so zhang yimou-ish. the action sequence was not bad, but more because of the number of people they got to shoot the scene than because of the entire choreography. i think the cast and the sheer magnificence of the scenes were what made the movie good. and the movie actually had a proper ending which wasn't a boring tell-all and left just the right amount to the imagination.

ANDDD add inconsiderate, immature movie goers to the top of my hitlist please. there was this group of simple-minded ahbengs and lians sitting in front of me who were laughing at the most unfunny moments in the movie, despite it being a tragedy and all. granted, the special effects might have been exaggerated (like pls what did you expect?) and the actors' expressions distorted at times but if these seem funny then i wonder why they'd spend so much on a holiday to watch a period epic. urgh, was fighting the overwhelming urge to smother them with popcorn. i hate hate hate hate people who talk loudly in movies.
