if there's one thing i could classify as being the most damaging to my pride and ego, it'd be being second best in a group where you're perfectly in league with everyone else.

no it's not a sudden thing, i've always been competitive, and this must-win mentality used to be much stronger when i was younger, it's much more toned down nowadays.
